The Kiang is the world's largest wild ass species, found in the Changthang plateau of eastern Ladakh. Herds of hundreds move freely across the vast high-altitude grasslands at 4,000–5,000 metres. Tso Moriri Lake and the Changtang Wildlife Sanctuary are prime locations for large herd encounters. See Kiang (Tibetan Wild Ass) herds on Ladakh's Changthang plateau.
