About this species

The Lesser Flamingo is a deeper pink, smaller species that sometimes outnumbers Greater Flamingos at Nal Sarovar and the Rann of Kutch. Its deeper crimson bill and smaller size distinguish it from the Greater. Large mixed flocks of both species create extraordinary photography opportunities on calm winter mornings. Watch Lesser Flamingos at India's saline lakes and wetlands. Mixed flamingo flock guide and best photography locations in Gujarat.

Plan field days around Jan–Dec: light is often strongest at dawn and dusk, when many mammals and birds are most active. Work with a naturalist who knows local movement patterns — they will position you ethically while improving your odds of a encounter in Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary.
